Abortion and rape

Saying that abortion is not allowed except for cases where the woman has been raped is all very well, except that most women's rape claims aren't believed.
What are people proposing, that raped women who become pregnant have to prove it through
the courts before they can get an abortion? Cos that'll work, with all 3% of rape cases resulting in a conviction. Or do they just have to prove it to their doctor? Cos that's bullshit as well. Aren't most doctors still male?

And whatever your personal views on the right or wrongness of abortion, safe legal abortion has to be a better option than a dangerous backstreet abortion.

(Me, sitting at home, listening to women's hour, getting inspired and avoiding work)

That is a good argument against that moronic "oh abortion is fine in cases of rape" crap b/c they're prolly as usual thinking of the tv "clear cut" version where it's in an alley with a stranger and a knife and blah blah blah... and as you said, ppl often do not believe a woman's claim of rape.. how do they propose to allow abortion in these cases? Would it have to go to trial? I mean how else would they know it's "rape" since apparently in this scenario we'd have to please some larger authority with proof >:\ Any less than going to trial would make guys go "BUT THEN THE FACT THAT YOU GOT AN ABORTION CAN BE USED IN COURT AS PROOF THAT YOU SATISFIED REQUIREMENTS THAT IT WAS RAPE EVEN IN FALSE CLAIMS" blah blah blah e_e

Not a very well thought thru idea...

Either way the whole thing is moot b/c woman has a right to her body and abortion is a right and a choice not just some thing we should ONLY allow in EXTREME situations... women should not have to disclose their personal lives, or have to prove nething to nebody to control their own bodies >:O Also honestly, do they rly think a lot of women are comfortable discussing their rapes with strangers much less having to prove it!? >:|

I know that was a rhetorical question but sometimes I think that people assume that if a woman has been raped and wnats an abortion then she'll have no problem telling doctors and lawyers etc about it. Just so long as she acts like a victim is supposed to act of course.

Privacy and trauma anyone?
Grr.
